- Description
In this beginner-friendly course, you'll learn how to knit, creating your own pumpkin for fall. We'll provide all the tools, materials and instruction so that you learn the basics of knitting and have fundamental skills you can apply to future projects such as scarves, hats and more!
Course Duration:
This course is broken into 2 separate sessions, taught on 2 separate days. Each session at the studio is 3 hours in length. The bulk of the time will be spent knitting two stitch types on repeat. Once you get the hang of it you are welcome to leave the class (instead of staying the full 3 hours) and work on your knitting at home if you prefer. At home you can keep knitting until you knit 26 rounds, then return for part 2 to learn how to finish off your pumpkin. Alternatively if you don't want to knit at home, you'll continue knitting the 26 rounds in part 2, then at the end of part 2, we'll teach you how to finish off your pumpkin.
Course Overview:
Part 1
Introduction to Knitting: We'll start with a brief introduction to techniques, tools and materials. If you're new to knitting, don't worry; we'll cover all the basics to get you started.
Understanding Patterns: You'll learn how to read and follow knitting patterns. We'll break down the pattern step-by-step, so you can confidently progress through the project.
Selecting Yarn and Needles: We'll explore various yarn types suitable for pumpkins, discussing their characteristics and best uses. Additionally, you'll discover which needle sizes work best with your chosen yarn.

Working in the Round: Knitting a pumpkin typically involves circular knitting. You'll learn how to work in the round using circular needles.
Knit and Purl Stitches: You'll master the two fundamental stitches in knitting – knit and purl. These stitches are the building blocks for creating various textures and patterns on your pumpkin.
Part 2
Knit and Purl Stitches: Continue knitting your pumpkin with knit and purl stitches until you have knitted 26 rounds.
Casting Off: We'll teach you how to use a tapestry needle to pass the live stitches off your knitting needle, so your pumpkin can be cinched up.
