- Description
In this beginner-friendly class, we provide all the tools, materials and instruction to knit a cowl for your dog. This dog cowl is harness friendly because it's worn around the neck. The techniques you'll learn in this class are the same you would use to knit a scarf (for dogs or humans).
Class Overview:
Casting On & Off: Learn how to start and finish your knitting project correctly. We'll cover how to make a slip knot, the long tail cast on and binding off.
Knitting Flat with Knit Stitches: You'll master the fundamental "knit" stitch to knit your dog cowl in garter stitch.
Mattress Stitch: Learn how to seam the ends of your knitting together to form a cowl.
Cowl Sizing:
In order to complete your knitting by the end of the class, the cowl size is limited to a maximum width of 4.5" and a length (circumference) of 16". If you're interested in knitting a larger cowl, contact us for a custom class. The green cowl shown is 3.25"W x 12"L.
Cowl Width (see image): To measure the width, take a paper towel (or hand towel for a larger dog) and fold to the width you think you might need, then wrap it around your dog's neck. Adjust as necessary until you have the look you want, then measure the width.
Cowl Length (see image): To measure the length (circumference) around your dog's neck, use a string and wrap is snugly around the neck, JUST behind the ears, then measure the string. The knitted cowl will stretch which is why you do NOT want to measure at the base of the neck. If you measure at the base, the cowl will stretch and slip down around the shoulder blades instead of staying around the neck.
For pricing purposes, you'll select the range the contains your size, but we'll ask you to type in your exact measurements because you'll need those in order to knit the cowl to your dog's exact measurements.
