This year I really got into designing new place settings for each approaching holiday, but I quickly found out how expensive that could get. Changing out your napkins is one of the easiest ways to update the look of your table setting but it’s also one of the pricier options, especially if you host upwards of 10-15 people for the holidays, like we often do.
One day while shopping, I came across these festive Art of Autumn beverage napkins. It was a 20 pack, on sale for $1.60. They were right in line with the look I was going for with my Autumn inspired table setting, however paper napkins are soooo…..cheap looking. They’re fine for a picnic or BBQ type party, but they just don’t work for a more formal place setting.
I really wanted some nice autumn inspired cloth napkins, but I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on them, especially when I knew I would be changing them out again in 2 months for a winter wonderland table setting. As much as I tried to convince myself the paper napkins wouldn’t work, I was still in love with them. So I went ahead and purchased them and decided I would figure out some way to use them later.
So now I’m back home and it’s “later”. I decide to get to work. First I fold one into a triangle and place it on a plate. CHEAP. Then I decide to wrap one around silverware. CHEAPER. Then I decide to stuff one into a wine glass, ugh CHEAPEST. This just wasn’t going to work. So I grab my plain old white polyester napkins and decide they will have to do. I fold one up and place it on the plate and VOILA! …it was soooo boring. Then a lightbulb went off in my head. I unfolded one of the paper napkins and wrapped it around one of the white cloth napkins and then tied a bow around it with some twine…and….I loved it! For whatever reason, you can’t even tell it’s a paper napkin when it’s wrapped around the cloth napkin. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS???? It means you can change out your napkins for a super festive look, every holiday, for less than $2!
